The “We’re in the Business of British Columbia” rebranding campaign was a classic case of the perfect solution hiding in plain sight. Pacific Coastal Airlines has been a fixture of life on the British Columbia coast for over 35 years, servicing more than 15 airports and 50 coastal destinations. For many of these communities, Pacific Coastal is the only airline providing residents with regularly scheduled flights. To the First Nations communities, businesses, medical services, and government agencies operating in these often-remote destinations, Pacific Coastal’s value is immeasurable.

Following a series of intensive and lively Insight & Discovery sessions with Pacific Coastal’s executive management team, the slogan “We’re in the Business of British Columbia” presented itself. It was strong, compelling, and an exact description of Pacific Coastal Airlines. Nothing abstract. No avant-garde quirks. Perfect.

By sticking to this theme throughout the creative process LBP created an undeniably honest brand. It’s bold, friendly, straightforward, and applies exclusively to Pacific Coastal Airlines and the indispensable role they play in the province of BC. Nobody but Pacific Coastal can fit inside this brand.

To reinforce Pacific Coastal’s rebranding initiative, a comprehensive internal and external communication plan was designed to ensure that all Pacific Coastal staff had a clear understanding of the upcoming changes, their purpose, and how to best communicate these changes to the public. To aid in the process, Brand Strategist David Childs and Communication Strategist Kevin Boothroyd flew to all Pacific Coastal bases to supervise the internal communication with respect to the new brand image.

Canadian Public Relations Society

Living Blueprint's role in this project was to provide strategic guidance to the Canadian Public Relations Society (CPRS) through the course of the year leading up to the annual conference. We needed to create a brand and reinforce it with a powerful website and strong marketing and event materials. The website was created with a content management system that gave multiple CPRS volunteers the ability to control both the event communications and the embedded social media tools.

A statement from CPRS Vancouver chairperson John Kageorge about the result of this collaboration:

To Living Blueprint:
“The National conference was extraordinarily successful. Thank you.
Living Blueprint provided the marketing strategy, tools, and ongoing guidance for ‘On The Edge’, the CPRS 2009 conference. Despite being held amid a recession, the conference delivered a substantial profit and set the new attendance record. This occurred because of the audience you delivered.

You wowed us with: strategic direction that expanded our market, an endless supply of fresh promotional concepts, the coaching on web 2.0 techniques, and a brilliant, interactive website. Most importantly, your guidance made us brave enough to abandon old techniques and aggressively embrace a better-focused strategy. Please count on CPRS members coast-to-coast as your fans. “
Gratefully, John Kageorge, Chair, On The Edge, 2009 CPRS Conference.

This project was an opportunity to work with one of Vancouver’s best-kept secrets - Alan Kostiuk’s Angel Ridge Landscaping, a company specializing in high-end landscape development for an exclusive clientele. Living Blueprint helped create a corporate identity and devise a strategy that would further cement Kostiuk’s presence in Vancouver’s high-end landscaping marketplace. We created the brand image, logo, website, power point presentations, proposal templates, brochures, all office collateral, vehicle sticker wraps, and branded staff clothing.

The first phase of Living Blueprint’s strategy was to take the emphasis off of Alan himself and place it onto the corporation. Living Blueprint accomplished this by splitting Angel Ridge into distinct entities: Create and Maintain, and corporate. Create was positioned towards architects, Maintain was positioned towards strata councils and Corporate was created to target corporate entities.

The key to the ongoing success of the new Angel Ridge company was the creation of a self-sufficient marketing strategy that they could implement and control themselves using the created materials. Packages were sent to every architectural firm within Angel Ridge’s area of operation. Next, strata councils were approached on a person-to-person basis and presented with a Maintain package targeted directly to their needs.

Living Blueprint began working with Angel Ridge in 2006. Since the beginning of the relationship, Angel Ridge have established their own office and warehouse, and also managed to double their staff and their income within a two-year period. Angel Ridge is improving its infrastructure to be better able to manage increasing levels of work due to the large amount of work that is now coming in.

AXYS Technologies - Brand Standards Guide

Axys Technologies Inc. designs, manufactures, and installs remote environmental monitoring systems worldwide. Living Blueprint worked closely with Axys to establish marketing guidelines and protocol, ensuring proper use of everything from the brand-mark to all marketing and promotional items.

Living Blueprint built a comprehensive Brand Standards guide for Axys that helped the company fully understand their own value, while assisting them in controlling and communicating their brand both to internal stakeholders and to their global clientele. The company’s Brand Standards guide also serves to increase efficiency by providing an internal communications document that streamlines the information distributed by all departments and global marketing reps.

All brand and marketing products were ‘cleaned-up’ and centralized through the production of the Brand Standards guide. This provided the additional benefit of enabling Axys to leverage all relevant marketing initiatives created over the past 10 years while simultaneously reducing costs in reproducing items that already exists.

Syntaris Power Corporation is a groundbreaking company with the best interests of the Earth’s population in mind. Living Blueprint was hired by Syntaris to create a corporate identity and to formulate a marketing strategy that would give them a strong presence as key players in the Canadian energy industry. Living Blueprint’s challenge was to conceive of an image and marketing strategy for the Syntaris Power Corporation that would capitalize on these impeccable credentials while integrating them with the company’s progressive vision, creating a product that would have a strong appeal both to investors and to the general public.

Keeping the company’s strengths, vision, and purpose in mind, Living Blueprint took the company’s vision, gave it a name, produced a logo, and formulated and implemented a marketing strategy that would put them on the forefront of the British Columbia energy marketplace. Living Blueprint also created a diverse array of marketing and promotional materials including: investor kit, website, letterhead, business cards, brochures, envelopes, trade show booths, and coffee mugs.

Miku Restaurant

The Miku Restaurant branding project was especially exciting because it marked the North American debut of a wildly successful young Japanese entrepreneur named Siego Nakamura, whose ambitious plans included introducing the upscale Miku restaurant to cities across North America. Nakamura spared no expense preparing for the launch of this flagship establishment and hired Living Blueprint to ensure that the branding element was properly planned and executed.

Nakamura relocated a team of his top people from Japan to Vancouver to ensure that Miku would be authentic down to the last detail. Living Blueprint worked closely with Nakamura to create Miku’s logo, an eight-page press kit bound into book form, and a beautiful website featuring a professionally crafted seven-minute documentary. A gala opening for the restaurant was organized via a six-month collaboration with Spark PR. David Childs (LBP) even coached Nakamura in English to help him prepare a speech for Miku’s grand opening.

The outcome was nothing short of a triumph. Miku’s grand opening was an incredible success, filling to capacity within 10 minutes of the doors opening. Since that day, Miku has continued to receive critical acclaim and has become firmly seated in the upper echelon of Vancouver fine dining.

Simple, create an attractive, engaging brand that people are proud to be a part of. When membership is a sought-after commodity, your organization can't help but grow.

Averbach Mortgages

  • Digital Branding

Living Blueprint’s strategy with mortgage broker Michael Averbach was to create a brand that personified Vancouver. It had to exude a professional and successful image while simultaneously appearing young, energetic, and approachable. The second main objective was to make an “umbrella brand” that could expand to allow multiple mortgage brokers to work under Averbach Mortgages.

To create, build, and reinforce the Averbach Mortgages brand, Living Blueprint carefully crafted a website with a custom content management system and guided the creation of a regular email newsletter that provides subscribers with a consistent source of useful and insightful content. An extensive SEO (search engine optimization) campaign was implemented to establish a strong online presence and Spark PR was contracted to conduct a PR campaign.

These combined SEO and PR efforts led to Michael being consulted on multiple occasions by media sources including the Vancouver Sun, The Globe & Mail, Canadian Business, and GlobeInvestor.com. This media exposure further established Averbach Mortgages as a top player in the Vancouver mortgage market.

The real triumph of Living Blueprint’s efforts was realized when the 2008-2009 economic downturn hit Vancouver’s real estate industry and Michael Averbach’s business continued to thrive. The brand that Living Blueprint and Mike Averbach dedicated so much time to creating had become synonymous with success.
